SACRAMENTO - Assemblyman Anthony Adams (R-Hesperia) issued the following statement in response to today's passage of Senate Bill 810 by the Senate Appropriations Committee, which would establish a universal healthcare system for California at a cost over $200 billion dollars to the state.



"This bill is another example of how unbelievably out of touch Senate Democrats are with Californians," said Assemblyman Adams. "Here we have a state facing a budget deficit exceeding $20 billion with double digit unemployment rates and yet Senate Democrats still pass a highly unpopular single-payer healthcare bill that will cost Californian's over $200 billion dollars. That is twice the size of California's current budget.



"This irresponsible legislation would be paid for out of the pockets of California families and they cannot afford it. Senate Democrats must learn as every Californian has that the state too must live within its means and nothing more."



Senate Bill 810 will be heard next on the Senate Floor.



Assemblyman Adams represents the 59th Assembly District, which includes the San Bernardino County communities of Apple Valley, Hesperia, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, San Bernardino, Highland and Mentone. He also represents the Los Angeles County communities of Claremont, La Verne, Glendora, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Bradbury, Arcadia and La Crescenta.
