Congressman Lewis Will Meet with Desert Constituents to Discuss Health Care Legislation
8/24/2009 - Congressman Lewis Will Meet with Desert Constituents to Discuss Health Care Legislation
Victor Valley – Congressman Jerry Lewis will discuss health care and other federal issues Wednesday at a town hall organized by Mojave Desert chambers of commerce at Victor Valley College.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. August 26 at the Victor Valley College Performing Arts Center. It is being hosted at the college by the Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia and Adelanto chambers of commerce.
“More than a thousand of my desert constituents have reached out to me to let me know their serious concerns about the health care reform proposals being considered by Congress,” Lewis said. “I am grateful that these local groups have given me the chance to meet with hundreds more and discuss the benefits and potential major problems we face as we consider this vital issue.”
Lewis held a town hall in Redlands this month attended by an estimated 700 people, and a roundtable meeting with more than 100 health care professionals. He has also held two telephone town hall sessions on the subject since Congress recessed August 1, speaking to nearly 20,000 constituents who were on the line for at least a portion of the calls.
“My constituents have told me they to improve our nation’s health care, but do not want a government-run system that will force them to lose their current plan,” Lewis said. “I am looking forward to more discussions to help inform me and my colleagues on the kinds of changes that will improve the quality of care for the greatest number of people.”
