Injunction Upholds Constitution of the United States, Protects Dignity and Equal Treatment for All
U.S. Congressman Joe Baca – 43rd District
Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) released the following statement today, after federal judge Susan Bolton blocked the most blatantly unconstitutional aspects of Arizona’s immigration law, SB 1070, from taking effect:
“Thank God there is a God. Today’s decision to block the most extreme aspects of Arizona’s SB 1070 upholds the constitution of the United States and helps to ensure respect, dignity, and equal treatment for all people. ”
“The bible tells us to love thy neighbor as thyself. By blocking the most outrageous aspects of Arizona’s law from taking effect, this decision is an important victory over fear and hatred. The truth of the matter is that Arizona SB 1070 would have only served to further divide the American people, and would not have brought us one step closer to fixing America’s broken immigration system.”
“As a veteran myself, the freedoms and liberties that so many of our brave men and women in uniform have fought and died for are never far from my mind. Arizona’s misguided immigration law was a direct challenge to the freedoms of every American. If fully enacted, the law would have inevitably lead to racial profiling, forcing some Americans to prove their citizenship based on the color of their skin, while others would stand little or no chance of being affected.”
“Moving forward, I will continue to advocate for a comprehensive immigration reform. Comprehensive reform means increased border security, tough sanctions against employers who violate the law, and a responsible pathway to citizenship for immigrants who want to contribute. It is the only realistic solution to the immigration issue that respects both the law of the land, and our history as a nation of immigrants.”
